First Sketch: 2014 Infiniti Luxury EV

Infiniti has released a teaser sketch of a luxury electric vehicle the automaker says will launch in 2013.

The as-yet unnamed five-seater is likely the Nissan Leaf-based electric vehicle we're expecting from Infiniti.

It's unclear how the electric vehicle's range and power will be affected by changes required to make it meet Infiniti's standards.

As we've seen with the lackluster market performance of the hybrid-only Lexus HS 250h, styling will be a key factor for the Infiniti. The preliminary Infiniti sketch shows a small car with pulled back headlights and a black roof, suggesting it might be a panoramic sunroof. Five-spoke wheels have centers featuring a glowing Infiniti sign.

Naturally, the section of the sketch we find most interesting is the blurriest. The Infiniti electric vehicle could prove to be a hatchback like the Leaf or Toyota Prius, or may simply be a sedan.

Regardless, we'll have the latest on this electric car as it comes into focus over the next couple years.
