New Details for Pagani's next-generation supercar, the C9

New Pagani Zonda F Spy Photos

During an interview with Argentina Auto Blog, Horacio Pagani confirmed the Zonda-replacing C9 will be launched towards the end of 2010. It will feature a 6.0-liter V12 Mercedes-Benz AMG engine with 700 hp and 1000 Nm of torque, which means the C9 will be almost as powerful as the Zonda R (which churns out 750 hp and 710 Nm of torque).

According to Horacio Pagani, the C9 "is a completely new car from concept, weight distribution, materials and dynamics." It will have 3770 new parts, a carbon-titanium chassis, specially developed Pirelli tires, and Bosch electronics. More importantly, the car will be able to meet U.S. crash safety standards and California's strict emission laws.

Production will likely be limited to 40 units a year, with a base price of roughly €900,000 ($1,265,000 USD).

Besides talking about the C9, Pagani stated 'normal' Zonda production will cease in September - but orders are still coming in for one-off versions and the Zonda R. In theory, the Zonda could live on for another three years.

Pagani Cinque Roadster Revealed

Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster

New limited production Pagani Cinque Roadster takes advantage of the incredibly light carbon-titanium fibre body used in the previous Cinque to keep weight down at only 1 210 kg, that’s exactly the same as the Coupe.

http://sacarfan.co.za/wp-content/gallery/pagani-zonda-cinque-roadster/sacarfan-zonda-cinque-roadster-02.jpg

We already know how rigid the Zonda is from the Zonda F Roadster, so Pagani haven’t had to add half a ton of iron girders to the Cinque to compensate for chopping the top off. So you will still have a car that can deliver 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds from its 678bhp V12 Mercedes-sourced engine, and on up to almost 220mph.

http://sacarfan.co.za/wp-content/gallery/pagani-zonda-cinque-roadster/sacarfan-zonda-cinque-roadster-04.jpg

The specifications mark the Zonda Cinque Roadster as the most exotic of exotics: an AMG engine making 678 horsepower and 780 Nm torque, ceramic-coated titanium exhaust, traction control and a six-speed sequential transmission by Cima. The nineteen- and twenty-inch aluminum/magnesium wheels are forged by APP and wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero rubber, and of course Brembo provides carbo-ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers. The Zonda Cinque Roadster's 1210kg curb weight is the same as that of the hardtop, as is the reported 3.4-second 0-100km/h run.

http://sacarfan.co.za/wp-content/gallery/pagani-zonda-cinque-roadster/sacarfan-zonda-cinque-roadster-01.jpg

Pagani offers a zero to 100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds and a zero to 200 km/h time of 9.6 seconds, again exactly the same as the coupe. No top speed was offered but it’s a good bet that it’ll be about 347 km/h (I think you know why by now).

The price? €1.3 million, plus taxes. That said, with a production run of just five vehicles, it's a fair bet that the Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster has already sold out.

Pagani Zonda R Official Commercial

The Zonda has set more than one record at the race track. It raised the bar for road supercars. Passion, ingenuity, knowledge and craftsmanship created the parts to form an effective and focused package. What more could you want?”

These are the enticing words appearing at the beginning of this beautifully-shot video clip. In the clip is the new supercar Pagani Zonda R. It does not move or even start up. This is something of a commercial trailer for the super track car which was commissioned to Supercarmovies.com by Pagani.

At some point during the clip they show some of the components that make up the R and then progress to other shots demonstrating these parts being screwed together by hand to form a complete package. When it’s done you can’t help but admire the polished finished product.

To get the technical spec of this supercar is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine with 552kW (750hp) and peak torque of 710Nm. It comes with a 6-speed sequential gearbox and slick tyres.

Geneva Motor Show: Pagani Zonda F Cinque

Pagani will bring a one-off Pagani Zonda F Cinque to the Geneva Auto Salon next week. The Zonda F Cinque is a teaser for the upcoming Pagani Zonda Cinque that is based on the new Pagani Zonda R that will also make it’s appearance in Geneva. We had a unique peak at the limited edition Zonda F Cinque at the Pagani factory earlier this month.

The Pagani Zonda F Cinque is very different to the Zonda Cinque of which artist impressions were released last year. The Zonda Cinque is based on the new Zonda R and shares only 10% of it’s components with the Zonda F. It will only be build in a very limited production of just 5 cars which are all already sold. Production of the first Zonda Cinque has not yet begun.

To bridge the 1 year required for the Zonda Cinque to be build, Pagani build a Zonda F in Cinque livery. It looks pretty much like the artist impressions of the Cinque with again the major difference that this Cinque is based on the Zonda F instead of the Zonda R.

Therefor it lacks a couple aerodynamic features found on the Zonda R and Cinque impressions including the hood scoop and new rear diffuser. One of the highlights of the Zonda F Cinque are the black wheels and tyres that feature a red line along the edge of the tyre and the unique paintjob. This will definitely be one of the most amazing Zonda F’s to date and something to look forward to in Geneva.

Pagani Zonda R at Monza in Video

Somehow the engineers at Pagani have managed to capture the sound of roaring thunder and bottled it into a car. How else does one explain the aural delights escaping from those four steel canons masquerading as tailpipes in the Zonda R? From the moment the engine is started up one realises that very special things are happening under the hood.

Pagani Zonda R Hits the Racetrack

The Zonda R was naturally devised for the track experience in more ways than the already-high-performance Zonda range was meant to handle. Ironically the man who brought the idea of a Zonda R is not interested in racing at all. He is however still a valued customer at Pagani with three other Zondas already parked in his garage. Thankfully the ride is not too harsh, enabling others like him to enjoy it even off the track.

Powered by the 6.0-litre V12 from Mercedes-Benz AMG, the Zonda R makes a formidable 750hp (552kW) and a maximum torque figure of 710Nm. Changing the gears is a 6-speed sequential transmission. The car is 394mm longer than the other Zonda models, its wheelbase is increased by 47mm and its track is up 50mm. It comes with magnesium forged rims and slick tyres, making a wet track an even more fun place to drive it on.

Here are the first images of the Pagani Zonda R out in the open. The car is shot at a race track where in two of the pictures it's parked next to another Zonda. Unless the driver was rain-master Sebastian Vettel this particular run could not have been too fruitful thanks to a visibly wet surface.

Pagani Zonda R Photo Appreciation

The Pagani Zonda R is the Italian supercar maker's most track-focused car. Even though the standard Pagani Zonda has broken records at the spirit-breaking Nurburgring's Nordschleife, it was never enough for some of Pagani's more track-biased customers. For these guys the Zonda R will fit perfectly.

The Zonda R is modeled from a Zonda but with a number of significant differences. At the foundation of its performance lies a 48-valve 6.0-litre V12 engine acquired from Mercedes-Benz AMG division. It kicks out 750hp (552kW) and maximum torque rated at 710Nm. Accessing this power is a 6-speed sequential gearbox from XTRAC which runs the big Pirelli P Zero rear 335/30/20 tyres.

Front rubber measures 255/35/19. Together they hurl the Zonda R from a standing position to 100km/h in 2.7 seconds. Top speed is estimated at over 350km/h. Carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes will put an immediate stop to the car if called upon.

A major cause for this stunning performance is the reduced weight. Pagani says the Zonda R's unladen mass is just 1,070kg (2,359 lbs). To make this happen the engineers constructed the body out of carbon-fiber and titanium.

Many parts were reduced in weight to achieve the desired mass. Even screws used are constructed from titanium. Light as it is the Zonda R is no small car. It measures 4.89 metres in length, 2 metres in width, one metre high and has a wheelbase of 2.79 metres.

Aerodynamics are improved by the use of adjustable suspension and wing configuration. A new bonnet, closed underbody and rear air diffuser form part of the arsenal against performance-sapping exterior air.

Pagani Zonda R Officially Unveiled

Looking for a Pagani Zonda R for sale? You’re not the only one.

Ever since Pagani released details of the Zonda R back in 2007, we’ve had a steady stream of enquiries. To be fair, most of those were from rubber-neckers looking for brochures or pictures; not serious buyers. But we have had a few very serious enquiries (although they may have had a change of heart if they were in banking, manufacturing, construction…!) and we’ve had to tell them the same thing; it’s going to happen, but we don’t know when.

But this week Pagani has finally got round to launching the Pagani Zonda R in Vienna.

The Zonda R is the final iteration of the Zonda before an all new model arrives sometime next year. But it’s not a road car. This is a Zonda built for the track, and there are only going to be 10 units built. And its not trying to homologate itself in to any racing series. This is just a pure and simple project to create the ultimate Zonda for the track, for a handful of very wealthy clients with

access to private tracks.

Pagani Zonda R New Images Released

Forget the Diablo, this is the supercar the Devil would drive, particularly in black-on-carbon exterior with red stripe. Actually, the term supercar isn’t even sufficient. More like “super ballistic ultra supercar” would be more suitable. So, now that we have established the Zonda R’s status within the realm of motoring, one can certainly understand the importance when a few new photos of the beast emerge.

So besides looking absolutely sinister, why is the Zonda R so special? Well, besides blurring the lines of a homologated GT track car along the lines of the Ferrari FXX and Maserati MC12, the Zonda R is essentially a privateer racer ineligible for organized racing. Therefore, as a motorsport outcast, the Zonda R is relegated to the street. Carrying an AMG built 6.0 litre V12 producing 750 hp at 8000 rpm and 710 Nm of torque for the price tag of $1.2 million USD, the Zonda R is merely a play toy for the very wealthy. It’s the type of excess every car enthusiast hates to admit lusting after.

Spy Photos:New Pagani Zonda F

Up front, this next-generation Zonda F will get an all-new front clip. In back, the rear quarter panels have been re-sculpted to allow for significantly increased airflow. The rear diffuser has also been redesigned and there is a totally new air scoop that sticks up from the middle of the engine cover.

Inside, we can see the "Zonda F" nameplate above several toggle switches. Other than a new shifter, we don't see any major interior changes. This Pagani has absolutely enormous 335/30/ZR20 Pirelli Pzero Rosso tires in back and 255/35/ZR19 tires in front. Sitting inside the wheels are equally enormous carbon ceramic brake rotors.

There are rumors of the 5.4L supercharged V8 from the McLaren SLR 722 or perhaps the bi-turbo V12 from the recently debuted Mercedes SL65 AMG Black series providing motivation for the Zonda F. Whatever the motor, it should be good for 600-700hp. The Zonda F should start production sometime in the first half of 2009. If you want one, count on an price tag of at least $650,000.

What power plant this supercar might be packing is a bit of a mystery. Pagani certainly wants to keep the motor a secret as the clear engine compartment panels were covered with black tape. Judging from the new, larger air intakes on this prototype, whichever motor resides under the cover obviously needs more airflow than the Mercedes AMG 7.3L V8 found in the current Zonda F.

Spy photographers were shocked when they saw this supercar prototype racing along an American country road with only a few small pieces of camouflage. Although the badges were covered in black tape, there was no doubt they were looking at the 2010 Pagani Zonda F.

Leaks Pagani Zonda Cinque Limited Edition

Pagani is renowned the world over for building some of the most incredible cars. Currently the Italian specialist marque has the Zonda F in production as both a coupe and roadster but has been planning to build a race version called the Zonda R. The Zonda R has not made it into production (yet) and remains a 1:8 scale model but design cues have been used to manufacture a road-legal version of it, which will be called the Pagani Zonda Cinque.

The Pagani Zonda Cinque, which translates as Zonda Five because there will be only 5 built ever, takes an already breath-takingly fast car to yet another level.

There is no official word from Italy yet, but we expect the power plant to remain similar to the Zonda F since we can't see how much more power can come from this 6.0 liter, 12 cylinder, 750 hp engine. Sources say that the price tag will be around the million Euro mark thanks to some aerodynamic alterations to the Pagani, the Zonda F can be yours for a mere Euro 800,000.

Stay tuned for official information and pictures from Pagani when they become available.

Test Drive:Pagani Zonda F Roadster

The battered Ford Escort in front slowed and demanded that we overtook, signalling and waving us to pass. Always the ones to oblige we gunned the 650bhp engine, dropping it down a cog for no good reason whatsoever apart from the wailing caterwaul of a V12 engine.

And as we catapulted alongside the beaten old Ford, the camera phones were waiting and the driver slowly, unwittingly, steered towards a crash with our €540,000 motor. Then there were two amateur photographers invading the shoot, it was just another day when you’re driving a bright orange Pagani Zonda F Roadster.

This is number four of just 25 Zonda F's and they make Ferraris or Lamborghini's look common as cow dung by comparison. So even though the basic design of the Zonda is nine years old, and we’re due a new model this year, possibly even at the impending Geneva show, this car is still capable of stopping traffic so long after Horacio Pagani first shocked the establishment with the new benchmark in the hypercar world.

It looks best from the back, which is the first glimpse almost every other driver will get as it streaks past. That Gatling Gun exhaust is the signature tune of the Zonda family and the F’s single-plane rear wing, carbon diffuser, intricate wire meshwork and pearlescent paint could all form the basis of a thesis. It’s one of those cars that you’ll never get tired of, because you’re centre stage every time you go out the garage.

That’s the thing with these cars, you could spend days poring over the details, the way the carbon-fibre weave matches perfectly, the glovebox comes with the kind of clasp that could adorn a woman’s purse and the machined switchgear sits so elegantly on the centre console plate that catches the light just so. Then there’s the other worldly instrument panel with dials like Rolex bezels.

The eye wanders past the fact that the handbrake is a bog-standard number covered with a dramatic metal collar, or that months of abuse meant the roof clasp struggled to engage, to the immaculately engineered brackets that hold the seat and the proud mirrors atop those wafer thin front wings. This car is so beautiful that you want to buy in to the idea of perfection, it captivates the imagination like nothing else – not even the comparatively clinical Enzo.

If anything the roadster surpasses the coupe’s fine groundwork as this car loses the bubble canopy that came just a little too far towards the front of the car. From the side the Roadster looks even lower slung, more chiselled and more menacing. It’s pure theatre, from every angle.

Over-the-top thinking like this that made us fall in love with cars in the first place. The Zonda F Roadster is dreams made real, the kind of thing kids used to sketch on the back of books and the modern day answer to the Lamborghini Countach that used to sit on all our walls. In terms of pure supercar design, it doesn’t get better than this.

And it comes in at full Clubsport spec, which means it gets the 650bhp version of AMG’s 7.3-litre V12, which should make for a bullying thug of an engine that doesn’t like towns and lives for the long and winding road. But incredibly, this is a liveable supercar, one you could drive every day, if you could leave it by the side of the road and not worry about such a work of beauty.

The F Roadster comes with anti-stall technology to keep the revs coursing through the engine and despite a heavy feel that wonderfully ornate clutch pedal never sends the car bunny hopping down the road. With a higher gear it will handle town’s ruts and potholes with just a shudder bouncing through the carbon-fibre chassis that is reputedly stiffer than Sauber’s old World Sportscars.

It’s a magically simply car to drive, but then I cruised past a mirrored shop window in the centre of Rochester, where Group 20 is based, and was suddenly, classically reminded of the spectacular machine underfoot as the locals struggled to comprehend what was passing before their eyes.

As the road opened out I tickled the throttle, the huge engine took a deep lug of fuel and took off down the road like a stabbed rat. Unlike the equivalent Ferrari that needs revs to truly sing, the Zonda can pull from nothing like a tidal wave building from beneath. With the hood down on a rare gorgeous February day in England, that guttural tugboat of an engine that lies directly behind the seats spins lazily until called upon to simply suck in the world in front.

When that happens the V12 hardens to a screaming metallic symphony and the Zonda F Roadster becomes just about the best car on the planet. Without even a carbon roof to get in the way that big AMG now sings through a hydroformed exhaust – and that’s F1 technology at its best.

Just imagine for a moment soaring down an A-Road in a car that serves up 60mph in 3.6s, which sounds a touch conservative from the bright orange, quilted hotseat. And despite the inevitable aerodynamic problems of a chopped roof, the Roadster hits 214mph when presented with a runway, Autobahn or possibly the Nordschleife.

That’s just 2mph less than the Coupe, and let’s be honest we were never going to get near it in England anyway. We’d have finished up on YouTube with a car this bright, and then in prison.

It comes with a low-pitched fighter plane soundtrack rather than the whining Italian racecars we have come to expect, and has perhaps more character. With modified versions of AMG’s immense driver protection, too, Pagani has produced one of the easiest cars you can imagine until you hit the race track.

He switched to a lighter weave for F, his tribute to co-designer and close friend Juan Manuel Fangio, but with the open-top and closed cars developed side-by-side there’s just no significant losses attached the soft-top version. It would take a track and a tyre budget to explore the subtleties.

At road speeds, within sane limits, the Roadster just won’t budge and hangs on to the bends with the consummate ease of a thoroughbred at work. And the monstrous braking system, ceramic of course, is beyond capable of handling anything the casual road user can throw their way. Things apparently get trickier right on its limits, but nearby Brands Hatch wasn’t an option with a borrowed car.

I just had to drink in the looks of the local youths, the thumbs-up signs came thick and fast and a few hot ladies gave us the eye. And that’s what Zonda F Roadster ownership is all about, standing out from the crowd and producing a one-man, mobile stage show. Even if we’ll never own one, we should just be glad cars like this are there. And this is one of the last Zonda's we’ll see.

With the new car coming there will be no more Zonda's and it was a nightmare getting hold of this one – as Pagani’s delivery schedule simply didn’t allow for it. So we have to give a big thanks to Group20, a supercar club based in the UK, stepped in and supplied the car. If you visit England regularly on business and fancy something fancier than a Renault Clio from Europcar – this is the club for you.

At Group 20, 60 days driving costing just £15,000 for the year, and there’s no points system, the Zonda costs the same as the Range Rover or the Porsche. And the best part is it’s readily available. So if you can afford the £10,000 excess that goes with the understandably intense insurance policy, spend a lot of time in Britain and fancy turning up to business meetings in something special, get in touch and they’ll make your dreams come true.
