First Sketch: Nissan Qazana

Nissan has revealed an all-new concept will take centre stage at Geneva. Called the Qazana concept, it previews a small-crossover that will start production in 2010, designed to sit below the Qashqai and Murano in Nissan’s range. The sketch shown here was released last summer when the Japanese firm first revealed plans to expand its crossover portfolio. The design is dominated by oversize wheel arches, with a roof and window line that echoes the sporty 370Z. While a pair of ‘suicide’ doors, hinged at the C-pillar will offer easier access to the cabin. And it’s good news for the British economy too – the production version of the Qazana will be built at Nissan’s Sunderland plant, safeguarding around 1,100 jobs. It will take up the extra capacity created when the current Micra ceases production in 2010.But that’s not all that’s in store for Geneva… Showgoers will be treated to European debuts of both the 370Z and Cube.
