The new VW Bora is the second generation model for the Chinese market and is based on the 5th generation European VW Jetta. Clearly, the Bora adopts Volkswagen's design characteristics such as "the muscular and clear modulations, an unmistakable C-pillar, the trapezoidal line of the headlights, the typical V shaped radiator grille that is integrated in the lines of the engine hood." However, the Bora takes into consideration Chinese cultural elements with prominent front and rear end styling that is inspired by a lion, according to the press release.
In a market that saw an astounding 780,000 VWs sold in China in 2007, the joint venture between FAW and Volkswagen has never been stronger as both parties seek to continue this strategy of “systematically bringing German know-how into harmony with Chinese culture. ” VW is the largest foreign automaker in China with 17% market share.
The Chinese VW Bora will go on sale this summer.
