Mercedes-Benz SL AMG Black Series Could Reach 720 cv…

Consider you could build a car that could easily count on 720 cv. Would you limit its power to a “mere” 680 cv? Well, Mercedes-Benz not only would, it will, according to AutoWeek. They have obtained insiders’ information about the new top-of-the-line SL-Class and this is precisely the output these sources have indicated the car will have.

With such a powerful engine, the SL AMG Black Series will defy its own bigger brother, the SLR 722, which counts on a 5.4-litre V8 engine that generates 650 cv. This is very likely the best explanation for the power limit imposed to the Black Series’ engine, the same 6-litre V12 used for the SL 65 AMG. The SLR will get a replacement in 2010, theSLC, and, in respect for hierarchy, it should be more powerful than any other Mercedes-Benz. Therefore, these 720 cv (or more) must be reserved for it.

Besides this huge output, the new SL AMG Black Series will feature aesthetical changes, along with aerodynamic improvements, and will be released, according to AutoWeek, in July, during the German F1 Grand Prix.

AutoWeek also discovered AMG plans to add two turbochargers to its 6.2-litre V8, but the goal is not to have a more powerful unit. Instead, it is to create better conditions for the adoption of direct fuel injection, a system that is becoming more and more common even in cheaper cars, such as VW Passat, in order to save petrol.
